Wood-Mode Partners With West Virginia University Solar Decathlon Team

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is a competition that allows colleges and universities across the United States to design and build solar-powered houses that appeal to the public and are both cost-effective and energy-efficient.

Wood-Mode is partnering with a group of students from West Virginia University and Universita degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata in Rome, Italy, to provide cabinetry for their innovative concept house.

Named STILE, the WVU-UTV team’s house merges Italian and Appalachian design concepts with innovative energy techniques to demonstrate that residents need not sacrifice comfort for solar power. The kitchen area features contemporary Brookhaven Vista cabinetry in Vertical Gulf Shores Laminate.

The 2015 Solar Decathlon will be held in October at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, CA. All competition houses will be open to visitors from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily on eight days over two weekends (October 8-11 and 15-18). Attendance is free.
